The first day saw 100 walkers taking part in three different walks which converged on the top of Ruberslaw.  The local Minister then conducted a service from Pedens Pulpit accompanied by a lone piper.



Walkers then walked down into the village of Denholm.



On the first evening of the festival SBC Council Conveer Alisdair Hutton welcomed walkers at a reception in the Tower Mill, the Scout pipe Band playing as visitors arrived.  SBC Ranger Keith Robeson then gave an illustrated talk of walking in the Scottish Borders.</description><link>http://www.borderswalking.com/blog/2011-walking-festival-begins</link><guid isPermaLink="false">2011-walking-festival-begins</guid><pubDate>Mon, 05 Sep 2011 11:34:38 +01:00</pubDate></item><item><title>2011 Walking Festival Update</title><description>With the start of the 2011 festival only weeks away, walks are filling up fast. Five walks are now fully booked with a further six walks only having a handfull of places left.  

The Walking Festival has recieved 100 Scottish Borders Walking Festival t-shirts, courtesy of sponsors SEStran.  The t-shirts will be given away to those taking part in the walking festival.

Tickets are still available for several of the evening events, Hawick Sings on the Wednesday and the Buskers Concert on the Friday, will be available at the walk centre.

Ceilidh/ concert featuring Stuart Anderson Ceildh band.
 
Special guest formally from Hawick Bill Woodcock from the Harbour band now living in Norway and many other local artists.
 
There will be a bar raffle and light buffet. Tickets £5.00.
 
The ceilidh sponsored by Hawick walking festival. Wilton church hall sponsored by Pearl in memory of her father Jim.
